Active since the 80’s Liljenberg established himself as a conceptual artist, working with visual arts, installations, audio and books. His work is grounded in a critical practice with focus on social and political issues. Recurring topics deals with the relationship between the individual and societal structures, hierarchical systems and power.
In the early 80’s he started the publishing company Firework Edition together with Leif Elggren, which since then has served as a channel for communicating the work. Since the late 1990′s, Liljenberg’s work is characterized by an interest in exploring alternative ways of how art can reflect, influence and interact with society. Often in the form of long-term collaborative projects, using public spaces as well as media, books, and printed matters as sites for exhibition and address. In 2002 he initiated the project The Office of Culture in one of Stockholm’s south suburbs. Today Liljenberg runs the project KAC (kistaartcity) in Stockholm.
