akcg is a collaborative art practice since 2006 between the two of us, anna kindgren and carina gunnars, stockholm, Sweden. MFA Umeå 1996 and 1997.
Art is a practice, a language with different surfaces and depth. In a neoliberal world where the artist is a model for the new worker akcg find it important to be a grain in a smooth smiling strata called the market and a support structure for thoughts and actions pointing out a way beyond. In this we take an interest in finding and producing images, forms and visions that can alter how and that we accept what is presented as models of life and normality through opposing neoliberal political rationalities transmitted through media etc.
We were part of the group (Swe.De) that ran the gallery Ynglingagatan1 (Y 1) 1996 to 2000, when the art project love and devotion started. love and devotion continued working through 2006 and was a collaboration initiated between artists carina gunnars, ingrid eriksson, karin johnson and anna kindgren. We have had the privilige to get to know people from and learn about Brazil, a country as big as Europe. From that perspective Sweden has, to us, an other aura: ethanol, eucalyptus, lost common politics of rental appartments, luxury resorts for prince Daniel and friends, a Brazilian queen, the biggest industrial city in Sweden is Sao Paulo…it gave us the energy to write a book about our totally changed perception of the world: agorafobi/agorafobia/agoraphobia
